A WORCESTER drama group is hoping it will be third time lucky after being nominated for an award for its performance of the musical Titanic.

Worcester Operatic and Dramatic Society (WODS) is among the nominees aiming to win the award for best musical staged during 2008 in the National Operatic and Dramatic Association’s West Midland’s region.

Its production of Titanic at the Swan Theatre, Worcester, last year was highly praised and was nominated by a NODA regional official who watched the musical about the ill-fated liner, which struck an iceberg and sank with the loss of more than 1,500 lives on April 15, 1912.

WODS has been nominated twice before, for Chess in 2003 and HMS Pinafore in 2005.

Group president Lesley Hart, said: “It is an honour, especially as the nomination comes from a fellow member of the amateur dramatics movement. We have our fingers crossed that it will be third time lucky.”

The entries will be judged later this month.

Meanwhile, WODS members are busy rehearsing for their next production, The Little Shop of Horrors, that is being staged at the King’s School Theatre, Worcester, from Tuesday, March 31, to Saturday, April 4.

Tickets from Worcester Live box office, Huntingdon Hall, CrownGate, on 01905 611427.

Well done WODS!! Titanic was a fantastic production that I never thought I could believe transferred to the stage, but I really was drawn in by the performances of the whole cast. A very respectful and artistically sound production so I hope they win the award and do Worcester proud! ... I also hope people support WODS in their production of Little Shop at the King's School. It can't be easy with the Swan closed, but it's good to see they're staging a production anyway.
