Black swans rescued from canal
TWO black swans had to be rescued from the canal in Droitwich after they escaped from a farm.
Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service was called to the scene about 11.30am today after the swans made their way down the river Salwarpe.
Fire service spokeswoman Sam Jones said: "Two swans were trapped in the canal off Vines Lane. We sent a boat from Worcester and a crew from Droitwich also attended.
"At 12.30pm we received a message saying that two black swans had been rescued."
Wychbold Swan Rescue was also in attendance. Founder Jan Harrigan said people watched and cheered as they rescued the birds.
"The two had come from a local farm and gone down the Salwarpe and ended up in Droitwich," she said.
