What the ’ell have they done with Ellsdon?

EEE BY 'ECK: Is it Ellsdon, or is it Ellsdone? Kate Playdon, from Kempsey, looks a little confused by the mistake (13347302)

A STREET sign in a Worcestershire village is causing confusion after officers added an extra letter to the end of the name of two roads.

For those not familiar with Kempsey it might need spelling out that the roads off Post Office Lane are actually Ellsdon and Ellsdon Rise and have been ever since the roads were built.

However, Malvern Hills District Council officers were not exactly word perfect when they put up this sign near Kempsey Primary School adding an extra 'e' to the name of each road.

Meanwhile, the plate at the first junction retains the correct spelling. No wonder Kate Playdon, who lives in the village, looks confused.

Malvern Hills District Councillor Mike Biddle, who represents Kempsey and lives in the village, said he had not seen the mispelt street sign for himself but admitted he had heard about it from parish councillors and residents.

"Somebody has made a mistake and it has obviously got to be put right," he said. Mr Biddle confirmed it is the responsibility of the district council to replace it and not Worcestershire County Council, which make road signs for directions.

"I believe the district council has been told about this and notified by the parish council," he said.

"I imagine they are aware, although I am not absolutely certain, but normally if it has been reported to the parish council they write to the district pointing this out asking for it to be replaced, but that can't be done over night."

No officers from Malvern Hills District Council were available for comment.

Its the same as Jennett Tree Lane in Callow End, one end has 2 T's the other has 1, or has that been changed. The problem I find with road signs in this area is that they only ever have one at each end, so depending which way you are driving you can't always see what road you are looking for, and Church Road in Malvern you have to be in it before you see the sign.
