How the stand will look

WORCESTER Warriors' Sixways stadium will soon be one of Europe's premier rugby venues - and this is the picture to prove it.

Club chairman Cecil Duckworth expects the ambitious £8 million redevelopment work, which will see the 10,197 capacity of Sixways rise to 12,000, to be finished in time for the next Guinness Premiership season in September. The exciting plans will see the existing east stand transformed to hold 6,000 Warriors fans as well as featuring a state-of-the-art cantilever roof which means there will be no restricted views.

Warriors are determined to create the best development in club rugby across Europe continued on page 2 with a multi-million pound facelift, which will also include work in the North East corner of the stadium.

And Chairman Cecil Duckworth has promised the Sixways faithful the latest phase in the club's rapid development will put the Warriors at the top of the league in terms of facilities.

He said: "The new east stand will house 6,000 Warriors supporters and the noise and atmosphere will be electric. It will truly take our facilities a quantum leap forward.

"The plan is for the new extended stand to be in place for the beginning of next season.

"We are all very excited about the future with work off the field to improve facilities and work on it with new players like Chris Latham and Hal Luscombe joining us next season.

"We're very confident about the future of Worcester Warriors and this development is another big step forward for us."

PLUSH: The new business club section

The development will also include 120 metres of new pitch-side hospitality with corporate boxes, lounges, function rooms, balconies, bars and a pitch-view restaurant.

A new Business Club' will be included too which will allow businesses across the West Midlands to network and socialise in the region's premier rugby hospitality.

The planned new development in the north east corner of the stadium will become the focal point of the entire complex with an expansive main reception, accessible ticket office and a spacious retailing opportunity on the ground floor.

Warriors' general manager Charlie Little is excited by the forward-looking plans.

He said: "This development is essential to our continued growth as both a club and business.

"Alongside planning permission for the north stand, which we already have, it will allow us to grow the capacity at Sixways at the appropriate time to above 15,000.

"We are already developing the complex with an improved infrastructure network off the M5, the addition of more than 1,000 car parking spaces that includes Worcester's new park and ride facility, increased ground capacity and the proposed development of a health and racquet club.

"We are turning Sixways into a fantastic rugby stadium and conferencing facility that everybody connected with the city and Midlands should be proud of."
